What TruePx accesses
- Only the tab you activate. TruePx runs on a page only after you click its icon, use its keyboard shortcut or its right-click menu item. It reads that page's layout, styles, text, colors, fonts and images to show you measurements and CSS.
- Screenshots for the contrast check (Audit tab). To measure text on a photo, gradient or overlay, the Audit takes a few screenshots of the tab you are on, one with that text hidden for a moment, and reads the colors behind the text in your browser. These screenshots are not saved and never leave your browser.
- Optional all-sites access. If you grant it in TruePx Settings, or when a check asks for it, TruePx can take screenshots, load pages inside its responsive viewports, check links, measure the real page load and check language versions on any site. You can revoke this at any time in your browser's extension settings.
What is stored, and where
TruePx stores the following only on your device, in your browser's extension storage:
- Your preferences, for example grid, viewport sizes, color format and screenshot options.
- CSS edits you make on a page, so they come back after a reload until you revert them, and a log of your recent text and HTML edits on that page. Both are saved together with the page's address, or the site's address for CSS edits you choose to save for the whole site. You can see and clear them in TruePx's settings.
- Pins (notes you attach to page elements), together with the page's address.
- The record of a page load you measured in the Audit tab, only until you close that tab or the browser.
This data never leaves your device. Uninstalling the extension deletes it.
Network requests
TruePx never sends data to the developer. It contacts an outside service only for the two optional checks below, and only when you click their buttons. The full list of network requests it makes:
- Requests for resources of the page you are inspecting, such as its stylesheets, images or HTTP headers, when you use a feature that needs them. To read the page’s own response, the SEO and Audit tabs request the page’s address again: once with your cookies (for its security headers) and once without (as a search engine would see it). Neither answer leaves your browser.
- Measure the real page load (Audit tab). Only when you click it, TruePx reloads the tab and, using Chrome’s
webRequestpermission, records for that one tab while it reloads: the page’s response headers, and the address, status, type and size of each file the page loads. Nothing from other tabs is watched. The record is kept in your browser for the session and removed when the tab closes; it is never sent anywhere. Chrome first asks you to allow TruePx to access sites. - Language versions (SEO tab). Only when you click Check each version links back, TruePx requests each language version the page lists (without your cookies) to read its hreflang links. Nothing about the results leaves your browser.
- Link check (SEO tab). Only when you click Check links, TruePx requests each link on the page to read its status code (for example 404 or a redirect). Chrome first asks you to allow TruePx to access sites. Cookies are sent only to the site you are on; nothing about the results leaves your browser.
- Google’s test (Audit tab). Only when you click Run Google’s test, TruePx sends the address of the page you are on to Google’s PageSpeed Insights API, which loads that public page and returns its speed results. Google handles the request under its privacy policy. If you save your own API key, it is kept only in your browser and sent only to that API.
- Grammar check (Audit tab). Only when you click Check grammar, TruePx sends the full sentences of the page you are on (not its menus, buttons, form fields or code) to LanguageTool’s public API at languagetool.org, which returns possible grammar mistakes. LanguageTool handles the text under its privacy policy. Don’t run it on pages with text you can’t share. The typo check that runs with every audit uses a dictionary and word lists bundled in TruePx and sends nothing.
- Links in the SEO tab, such as PageSpeed Insights or the Rich Results Test, open that service in a new tab with the page’s address, and only when you click them.
- Optional AI-agent bridge (MCP). If you choose to connect an AI coding tool, TruePx talks only to the
truepx-mcpprogram running on your own computer (127.0.0.1). The AI tool that starts it, such as Claude Code or Cursor, may send what it receives to its own service under its own privacy policy. The bridge is off unless you set it up.
Clipboard and downloads
When you ask it to, TruePx copies values such as CSS or colors to your clipboard and saves files you choose to download, such as screenshots or images. It does not read your clipboard for any other purpose.
This website
This website (truepx.xyz) uses Google Analytics to count visits: which pages are viewed, where visitors came from, and general device, browser and approximate location data. Google Analytics sets cookies to do this, and Google processes the data under its privacy policy. You can block it with your browser's privacy settings or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
This applies only to the website. The TruePx extension itself contains no analytics and sends nothing to the developer.
Children
TruePx is a developer tool and is not directed at children.
